Carmel River State Beach Engagement @ Wedding Rock

G & Jo met up with me at this special part of Carmel River State Beach for their sunset engagement session. Usually I’m shooting small weddings / elopements at this spot, so it was fun to explore it in a fresh context. These two are classy & romantic, and were totally open to my directions throughout the shoot. I think we ended up with some amazing photos, here’s a few of my favorites:

Carmel Beach Small Wedding / Pèppoli at Pebble Beach

I've interacted with this family several times over the years – mostly with the groom's brother (I shot his marriage proposal as well as family photos later on at this same location). Everyone is from Texas, so this is a special spot along the Bay that the family enjoys to come together at.

Today, Matt and Pamela held an emotional, intimate wedding on , a grass-covered clearing on Ribera Beach in Carmel, with a large rock outcrop standing firm as backdrop. A beautiful location, to be sure, and a stone's throw from where Matt's father was married years before – but the view was nothing compared to the beautiful bride walking down the makeshift aisle with her father. In no time, everyone was sniffling and dabbing at their eyes, soaking up the pure joy of the moment on this beautiful day.

It's always a little nerve-wracking when you're about to shoot a destination wedding for a couple you've never met, and even more worrisome when the weather report for the day says it's going to rain almost 3" - but as soon as I met Paige, her face was lit up with excitement and I could tell that rain or shine, this was the best day of her life. A big part of me relaxed too, knowing that I could handle whatever the day would throw at me, capturing everything that mattered and then some. It ended up not raining at all, but one of the most memorable moments was about 30 seconds into the bride and groom romantics – we'd just stepped outside and a strong gust of wind whipped the veil up, up and away!

Monastery Beach / Rancho Canada Golf Club Carmel Wedding

Yuriana and Ruben lucked out with some amazing weather on their wedding day – which is a good thing since they planned an outdoor ceremony at gorgeous Monastery Beach in Carmel, California. The ocean in this cove has blue and green hues a la more tropical locations like Hawaii, and the skies overhead had just enough clouds to add visual interest and to subtract a little harshness from the sun. After the ceremony, we did a little TTD session (Trash the Dress), which turned into a TTT session (Trash the Tuxedo) after I had the couple lay down in the sand. Luckily they were prepared for this, although I felt a little bad considering the non-tropical temperature of the ocean at our latitude :) But we got some great shots, so all is forgiven (right guys?).

This traditional Catholic celebration was such a joy to capture. Monica and Kevin tied the knot in their hometown church in Salinas – a place that is so special to them both. They didn't want to see each other beforehand, so we had to take special care when walking around the corridors of the church to keep the two separate! The full mass was intimate as more people would show up for the reception. After the ceremony and a few family portraits in the church, the couple and I headed over to Carmel River State Beach for some formal romantic portraits. It's a popular family destination, so they received plenty of congratulations as we made our way through the sand! You can tell from the photos these two simply adore each other – the look in their eyes says it all.

Mission Ranch is always a fun venue to work at – there's green fields spotted with puffy white sheep with the ocean beyond them. The reception hall is positioned above these (great panoramic view!), and was decorated with sparkly lights and clean, light decor. There was laughter and tears, and the overwhelming sense of joy that accompanies witnessing a new chapter in someone's lives. Thank you so much for choosing me to capture this day for you two!
